The shallow water bays and hidden backwaters surrounding Sweetwater provide an incredible bass fly fishery. Take it from me, we’re the only ones throwing flies & they crush ‘ em.
The next world record longnose gar will come from these waters. Probably the most fun a freshwater fly/sight angler can have on the water. That said getting these hard fighters in the boat for a hero shot can be challenging.
Clear sand flats, muddy backwater sloughs, grassy marshlands, & rocky shorelines are few locations we find the greatest freshwater gamefish on the planet. Shots at 30 plus inch fish daily. Get one over 30” in the boat & win a prize.
Starting to see more & more Catfish on the flats tailing. Biggest one so far in the boat was a 25 lb blue cat. Got him on a Carp fly. We will throw flies at anything we see swimming.
Aka Mr. Ugly. You will see these guys all over the flats. If Carp are scarce on a certain flat then we will break out the 6wts with tiny nymphs & have a blast. They do fight hard but even I think they are ugly.
Identical to their saltwater counterparts, freshwater Drum are twice as smart. They will not take a fly on the drop but swim or bounce one across their face & it's game on.
Stripers & White Bass
You never know when a blitz will occur but you can bet I will always have my eyes peeled & a Clouser rigged.
